Vintage Modern Knits Event

What a great time we had hosting Kate Gagnon Osborn and Courtney Kelley who own Kelbourne Woolens, distributors of The Fibre Company yarns. They are also the designers of all the beautiful garments and accessories in the new book Vintage Modern Knits!  These girls are smart and innovative but have work hard to keep alive vintage techniques as you will quickly see in Vintage Modern Knits.
We hope you give one (or two!) of their designs a try!
Courtney and Kate arrived on Saturday afternoon, March 5 and after arranging and displaying ALL their trunk show items, got right down to business teaching the Roositud Inlay technique to a great group of eager knitters!

Courtney is demonstrating the technique to Cindy.
While Kate helps Marie......
Later that evening we enjoyed some wine and goodies while Kate and Courtney signed books...
Sara was knitting away.......
Courtney worked on a "secret" project while discussing yarny issues with Janice and Kate, who is keeping warm with her luscious Margarethe shawl wrapped around her neck.
Courney designed the beautiful Brigid Jacket Janice made with my all-time favorite yarn, Terra:
Sharon made her shawl with the scrumptious Fibre Company Canopy Fingering!
I think Janice, Amy and Valerie are in Fibre Company heaven!  Look at those smiles!

On Sunday, the girls were back to work teaching Fair Isle and the Meritursas Beret.  Vicki and Debi are deep in concentration!
Janet got some one-on-one instruction from Courtney:

Linda, Caitlyn and Mindy are also concentrating while Kate, again, is keeping warm with another beautiful shawl, Mountain Ash, draped around her neck!

Here are some of the amazing pieces the girls brought to Pittsburgh:
The hat and scarf are single patterns available at Bloomin Yarns and the cardi is in the book VMK.
An assortment of pretty things.....
And yet more.......
Sandy had a great time on Sunday trying on all the cardigans from the book.  I promised I wouldn't publish every photo of her here but....she sure did look great in all of them!  She was thrilled to try the Adelaide Yoke Pullover, designed and knit by Kate, since she is making one for herself.
This is the Yangtze Cardigan, knit in Canopy Fingering
...and the Erin Cardigan knit in Savannah DK

Courtney designed the Ginger Lace Cardigan in Road to China Light.
....more pretties.....
Thankfully, I finished my own Brigid Jacket on Saturday night and wore it on Sunday.  Just in the nick of time!
The girls were gracious enough to leave behind all the items from Collection 3: Shawls, Scarves and Cowls plus several hats!
(unfortunately, they're back in Philadelphia now)
Sassfras is one of my favorites.  It's actually a square that's folded into a triangle in this photo.
Mountain Ash is another beauty.  It feels so amazing on!
Linden is a cute, small shawl that would look great with a Spring or Summer outfit.
I couldn't resist the soft squshy cables of the Magnolia Cowl.  Had to start one for myself!
Balsalm is a generous sized scarf in a simple lace pattern.
Tupelo would be a great beginner project.
One more shawl, Beech, forgot to come to Pittsburgh.  You can see it and more photos of these lovely items at http://www.kelbournewoolens.com/.

Thanks Courtney and Kate.  You both were a treat!!
